citizens need answers to legal questions or simple legal advice that can be given over the telephone in just a few moments.
Or, citizens may need a referral to other legal or social service agencies. FBLC has established its monthly LegalLine to
fill this important legal need in our community. Each month,
volunteer attorneys will man phone banks to answer legal questions from the public. Bilingual assistance is available –
just ask! LegalLine is available to residents of Fort Bend County

you may have heard, the Fort Bend County Bar Association has formed a non-profit corporation called “Fort Bend Lawyers
Care” (FBLC), whose mission is to provide pro bono legal services to low-income residents of Our
volunteer lawyer program is modeled similarly to the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program (HVLP). A staff of non-lawyer personnel,
including legal assistants and paralegals, will handle initial intake and screening of cases for merit and client financial
eligibility. Staff will then match the clients with appropriate local volunteer attorneys. Fort Bend Lawyers Care will provide
its volunteer lawyers with wide range of support including malpractice insurance coverage (through the SBOT), forms, pleadings,
training, free CLE, guardianship certification, and in some cases, supervision by more experienced attorney mentors. Future
goals of FBLC include establishing a dedicated legal clinic for provision of legal services and
to conduct public workshops to assist the poor, including an Elder Law Clinic, Family Law Clinic, Bankruptcy Clinic and Pro
Se Clinic. We need your help and we need it NOW. Your contributions to FBLC are TAX DEDUCTIBLE! The bottom line is that we need funds in order to successfully operate our pro bono program and we need money NOW. If every member donated $100.00 (or even $50 or $20 or $10) it would have a huge and immediate impact on what we are trying to achieve. I pledge that your contributions to FBLC will be spent wisely and in a manner that will maximize the pro bono services that will be provided. You will be amazed at what we can achieve with your generous donations. A donation of any size will really help, especially right now while we are seeking grant funding.
